Na długo zanim na tym terenie powstała wioska Szejch Abd el-Qurna, w wapiennych skałach wykuwano grobowce będące „domami życia”, zaś ich właściciele czczeni byli w lokalnych kapliczkach oraz świątyniach, niekiedy przez setki lat po ich śmierci.

Long before the village of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna was established in this area, tombs that were “houses of life” were carved in limestone rocks, and their owners were venerated in local chapels and temples, sometimes for hundreds of years after their death.
