Głowa piaskowcowego sfinksa Hatszepsut

Zespół „Świątyni Milionów Lat” Hatszepsut rozpoczynała dolna świątynia zlokalizowana na granicy pól uprawnych, od której wiodła szeroka aleja procesyjna prowadząca do głównej budowli w Deir el-Bahari. Wykopaliska prowadzone na terenie alei procesyjnej w pobliżu głównej bramy dolnego dziedzińca doprowadziły do odkrycia tysięcy fragmentów piaskowcowych sfinksów, które flankowały aleję prowadzącą do świątyni. Sfinksy przedstawiały leżącego lwa z głową króla Hatszepsut i pokryte były pięknymi, jaskrawymi kolorami.

Hatshepsut’s “Temple of the Million Years” complex was started by the lower temple located on the border of arable fields, from which a wide processional avenue leads to the main building in Deir el-Bahari. Excavations in the processional avenue near the main gate of the lower courtyard led to the discovery of thousands of sandstone fragments of sphinxes that flanked the avenue leading to the temple. The sphinxes depicted the lying lion with the head of King Hatshepsut and were covered with beautiful, bright colours.
