Sfinksy

Pierwszą grupę sfinksów o ciałach lwów i głowach baranów (święte zwierzę boga Amona-Ra) zobaczyć można tuż przed głównym wejściem do zespołu świątyń w Karnaku. Podobnie jak Wielki Sfinks w Gizie, rzeźby sfinksów ustawiane w innych częściach Egiptu, w tym na terenie Teb miały strzec dostępu do przybytków bóstw i królów. Pomiędzy łapami każdego ze sfinksów zaobserwować można niewielką postać stojącego faraona, którym był Ramzes II.

Sphinxes

The first group of sphinxes with the bodies of lions and ram heads (the sacred animal of the god Amun-Ra) can be seen right in front of the main entrance to the Karnak temple complex. Like the Great Sphinx of Giza, sculptures of sphinxes set up in other parts of Egypt, including in Thebes, were intended to guard access to the shrines of deities and kings. Between the paws of each of the sphinxes one can observe a small figure of a standing Pharaoh, Ramesses II.
